Ensuring your helmet is safe and effective starts with knowing its age. To check your helmet's production date, look for a stamped code or sticker typically found inside the helmet, on a strap, or tucked beneath the padding. Most manufacturers recommend replacing your helmet five years from its production date or first use to maintain optimal safety.

Steps to Find the Production Date

1. Locate the Production Date:
Look for a Sticker or Stamp: Examine the interior of your helmet for a label, sticker, or stamped code.
Check Specific Locations: Common spots include under the padding, on the chin strap, or near the visor.
Understand the Code: You might see a two-digit year, a numerical code indicating the month, or a letter code where each letter represents a month. Our is on a white square sticker with MFG: Date in MM/YYYY

Important Factors to Consider

Damage: Regularly inspect your helmet for any cracks, dents, or signs of impact. If you notice any damage, it’s essential to replace the helmet immediately, regardless of its age.

Storage: Store your helmet in a cool, dark place, away from chemicals, to prevent any material degradation.

Exposure: Avoid placing your helmet near solvents, gasoline, or other harsh chemicals, as these can degrade its protective materials.

By keeping track of your helmet’s age and condition, you can ensure that it continues to provide the reliable protection you need on every ride. Stay safe, and enjoy your adventures with Smith Optics!
