Embark | Matte Purple / Cinder / Hi Viz

Glacier travel. High elevation summits. Spring snowfields. Eye protection in the alpine is serious business. Whether you're skiing or mountaineering, the Smith Embark sunglasses hold up to harsh, ever-changing conditions while providing a contrast-boosting view of every crevasse, wind drift and terrain feature.

The UV and visible light activated Glacier Photochromic lens is less temperature sensitive than a traditional photochromic lens with a light transmission range from 45% to 7% that adapts dynamically to variations in light. ChromaPop™ delivers color and contrast-boosting performance throughout the full range of the lens, so you always have the best possible view. Removable and ventilated side shields add peripheral light coverage, and low-profile, adjustable temple arms let you customize the fit. A goggle-inspired retainer strap adds the security to keep them in place through technical ascents and high-speed descents.

Love them!

"Lens are crystal clear and perfect for mid - bright light areas and transitions perfectly. Build quality is sturdy and nose pads and ear hooks are comfy. They also look good on my slighly wider shaped head"

Great except for the weak strap connection

"Great except don't trust the strap... I really liked these. All the tech lens business worked well and adjusted to different light levels. The copper blue lens is bordering on some sort of pink but it works well. The side guards make them almost like goggles, great outdoors but cut peripheral vision too much for driving. When I really needed a strap in rough weather it just popped off and they were gone overboard with no option to turn around (whether or not they float). So yes I liked these, but the convenience of the pop on/off strap is a flaw. What's the point of a parachute if it disconnects under light load. Should have been a 10/10 but for the weak strap."

The last glassed you'll ever need???

"I was looking for optimal clarity, low light and high light coverage, in a comfortable all day - day after day sunglass... These do it all. Over the years I've owned sunglasses from a lot of brands. These might be the best, usually if you want the best lenses you go after glass fishing sunglasses as they have their focus on optical clarity in varying light. BUT these knock those out of the park. Living in 6 months of snow I've been putting these to work on pre dawn light, flat light, vertigo inducing clouds and fog banks as well as full sun bluebird days skinning. I think the photochromic (I got the glacier photochromic copper blue mirror) is what helps in low light. It is picking up the blue from the snow in shadows. So I'm seeing definition on snow that I haven't picked up on with other sunglasses. In full sun the lenses change quickly and have the usual Chromapop magic - Oakley prizm. Whatever color enhancement you want to compare. The frames on these are lighter than most and also have a gripier/spongier feel. The temples are bendable so they can be fit to your head and the megol rubber grip make them "lock" in place and feel very secure. The times you really don't want to lose them the strap is added security/bonus. All that makes them comfortable all day with or without hats etc. The coverage is perfect with the side shields. I get no light leaking through and a comfortable fit but also like I can take the side shields off if I want. Fogging, I was concerned these would fog on heavy snow/wet days when moving uphill and sweating with those side shields in place - but I haven't had an issue. It seems like keeping the internal side of the lens is key there as that's where all the tech is on these glasses."

Love this glasses but please sell replacement lenses

"These sunglasses are great for mountaineering and trekking in snow or whenever. One issue though is that My lenses are badly scratched and they don't sell replacements."

Perfect Shades For Ski Touring

"I absolutely LOVE these sunglasses! I recently purchased these to use on my uphill adventures in the backcountry and they have far exceeded my high expectations. The Embark is an incredibly versatile pair of sunglasses - the side shields are incredibly helpful on bright high glare days, and I love that they can be removed when they are not needed. I highly recommend these glasses to anyone who spends time outdoors during the winter!"

The best

"I'm a former heliskiing guide and an avid backcountry traveler. These sunnies have been amazing in clarity, smudge/fog protection, and stamina against the elements. I went with the Glacier Photochromic lense and couldn't be happier. Low visibility: no prob (and they VLT transition is pretty quick too). Super bright snow glare: totally fine. Highly recommended and wish I had these back in the day."

UV blocking level

"do they have 100% UV protection?"

Best Sunglasses ever

"The Smith Embark Photocromic Cromapop sunglass is by far the best sunglass I've ever purchased. The lens alone is worth every penny. I feel as though I'm viewing the world in high def. I now own both the white frame with grey lenses and now the black frame with the Photocromic lenses which I feel are way better for low light/ overcast days. Living in Alaska, I'm looking forward to using these all year round and I can't wait to use them when the snow starts falling and getting out on the mountain with them. 5+ stars for sure."

Embark

"Bought at a local shop. Great fit for my face, which is hard to do. Blinders work great to keep the elements out of your eyes, draw looks with all the wild colors!"

Great for the water

"Bought these at a tournament. Wore on the water. Sick clarity and fun style. Blinders really helped keep the salt out of my eyes. Got a lot of compliments for a girl wearing these glasses."
